The municipality of Felanitx is introducing a recycling system that is similar to the one used years ago when the waste collection service still came from house to house. Now the waste is separated and collected accordingly by the waste collection service.
However, the introduction of a new waste disposal system is not only a technical matter, but also a change in the behavior and habits of the citizens. For this reason, it is crucial that all residents of Felanitx are informed about the benefits, the process and the importance of this system.

The new system will come into force on 22 April 2024. Residents of urban areas will have to request the various waste bins from their municipality. This is because in the urban areas, the waste disposal system is applied from house to house. A brochure will be handed out informing residents when which waste will be collected. The idea is to recycle, so only the garbage that is collected on the specified days may be put out. Problematic for urban vacation home owners on the day of departure.

Residents of the rural areas receive an access card to the waste disposal points indicated. Only with this card you have access to the waste garbage cans that have the same recycling system as described above.
It is uncertain whether this system will catch on and whether the cans and bottles constantly lying on the roadside will become a thing of the past. Recycling in the form of deposit fees would make more sense. Let's wait and see.
